COLOR LIVE ON SET
Color Live is a process that allows for managing and modifying colors in real-time during filming. This enables Digital Imaging Technicians (DIT) to make color corrections on set, ensuring that the captured image matches the look chosen by the director and interpreted by the Director of Photography (DOP). Subsequently, the colorist interprets this look during post-production.
Digital cinematography has made it possible, and sometimes necessary, to start post-production directly on set. During pre-production, a lot of time is dedicated to preparing the visual aspect of the production through reference material and mood boards. This show look serves as a guide during production. It's essential to have someone on set monitoring the consistency of the images with the look decided by the DOP, facilitating the assessment of the effects of changes such as lighting or exposure.
Color Live On Set is crucial for maintaining a consistent look, especially when using different camera models and lenses, or when the scene context changes.
For the colorist, the look metadata serves as a starting point for the final color correction and a reference to understand the original intent of the DOP, improving overall quality and consistency in post-production.
